Empowering Careers: How TIEVA Supports Employees to Thrive and Succeed

National Careers Week is the perfect time to reflect on what career growth truly means—especially at TIEVA. To gain insight into this, I spoke with Rachel Broadhead, Talent Acquisition Manager, and Alun Watson, Learning and Development Specialist, about how we empower our people to thrive, push boundaries, and build careers they love.

At TIEVA, we believe success isn’t just about job titles or promotions—it’s about growth, ambition, and having the right support to reach your full potential. Whether through continuous learning, mentorship, or creating an inclusive environment where everyone can shine, we are committed to helping our people succeed.

During our conversation, we explored five key ingredients for career success at TIEVA:

✅ Embracing technology and innovation in the workplace

✅ Keeping up with career development trends and insights

✅ Supporting career transitions and long-term growth

✅ Championing diversity, inclusion, and organisational support

✅ Boosting employee engagement and retention

What Does This Look Like in Action?

Let’s dive in and explore how TIEVA is shaping the future of careers for our incredible team.

"When reviewing career development trends in the technology industry, it quickly became evident that the landscape is evolving rapidly— and with it, career opportunities at TIEVA," said Rachel. "Over the past year, we've introduced new roles, particularly in data and cloud technology, to meet growing demand. Previously, we didn’t have a dedicated data team, but it has since become one of our fastest-growing and most important departments at TIEVA."

With technology reshaping job functions—and “Being Better” as one of our core values—TIEVA encourages employees to align their qualifications with industry standards and embrace continuous learning.

"We recognise that many future job roles don’t even exist yet," Rachel explained. "We work hard to stay ahead of industry trends to help employees future-proof their careers. We ensure our colleagues and peers remain informed about the latest developments in IT. Equally important is the support we provide—whether through opportunities to transition between departments, advance within teams, or climb the career ladder."

Career Paths at TIEVA: More Than Just a Straight Line

At TIEVA, we believe that career paths aren’t always linear. Employees have the freedom to explore multiple directions within the company, encouraging both personal and professional growth. We've seen numerous success stories of individuals transitioning into fulfilling roles.

Rachel shared some standout examples:

“One of our colleagues started as a First Line Service Desk Technician and has since moved and excelled in our cloud practice. Another transitioned from finance to our data team. Similarly, a First Line Engineer from our Service Desk moved into the Data and Innovation team.

"It’s important that employees know these opportunities exist and that the support structure is in place to enable them," Rachel emphasised.

To support these transitions, TIEVA offers job shadowing and departmental prospectuses, giving employees valuable exposure to different areas of the business. This not only opens up new career avenues but also encourages cross-functional learning.

Building Confidence Through Training and Support

There is extensive training available to help make career ambitions possible for our colleagues at TIEVA. We ensure employees are equipped with the qualifications, knowledge, and confidence to take the next step. Once a dialogue begins with management and the relevant stakeholders, we provide ongoing guidance and mentorship at every stage.

Alun Watson, TIEVA’s expert in professional development, highlighted the importance of tailored support:

"At TIEVA, career growth isn’t just about training—it starts with truly listening to our employees. The best approach is ensuring that we genuinely hear what people want to do."

Our apprenticeship and Service Desk programmes have played a significant role in helping employees launch and progress in high-level IT careers. "It’s often said that our departments feel like a tight-knit family," Alun added.

Navigating Career Development in a Fast-Changing Tech Landscape

With the rise of AI and new technologies, choosing the right training path can feel overwhelming. Alun points out, “There’s so much available that it’s easy to become blind to it. The key is curating what will help individuals the most.”

At TIEVA, we collaborate with experts to provide the best training, ensuring employees stay ahead of technological advancements.

When discussing this topic, it’s important to address the barriers that might appear along the journey. A key challenge in career development is balancing personal goals with business needs. While we support every goal, we recognise transitions can’t always happen immediately. “If an employee wants to move into a department but there’s no space, we encourage them to upskill so they’re ready when an opportunity arises,” Alun advised.

“For employees unsure of their next steps, we offer mentorship and coaching to help explore potential career paths. Furthermore, this allows us to maintain an engaged workforce, continually thriving and confident in their chosen path, ready for when the opportunity arises”.

Career development plays a significant role in attracting and retaining top talent. Many candidates apply to TIEVA because they see opportunities for growth that they don’t find elsewhere. Talent Acquisition expert Rachel shares, “When I’m interviewing potential candidates, career development is at the top of their priority list. If we couldn’t offer that, we wouldn’t be attracting top talent.”

To measure success, we track internal promotions, qualifications achieved, and employee engagement survey results. “This approach helps us refine our development programmes and ensure we continue offering meaningful growth opportunities,” Rachel added.  “Whether helping individuals transition into new roles, supporting learning, or championing diversity, our goal is to empower employees to take ownership of their careers.

Diversity and inclusion are fundamental to how TIEVA operates. From recruitment to career development, we ensure that every employee feels valued and supported, as it is an essential factor in the TIEVA culture. Our business and supporting colleagues are always aware that every individual in this organisation has a different starting point, due to a colleague’s race, creed, or social and economic background. To combat this and provide appropriate support, a clear line of communication is needed, and TIEVA will always listen. Alun Watson further emphasises this: “It’s all about communication. It’s about leadership understanding that people have different challenges and that it’s our role to support them so they can contribute in the best way possible.”

“We encourage psychological safety, allowing employees to speak openly about their experiences. Initiatives like flexible working arrangements, employee culture teams, and anonymous feedback channels ensure that our workplace is inclusive and adaptable to individual needs.”

“Every single employee of TIEVA receives Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) training. But it’s not just about training—it’s about creating an environment where people feel safe to speak up and are truly listened to. It’s this commitment to creating an open and supportive environment allows our team to thrive, leading to stronger collaboration and innovation across the organisation.”

At TIEVA, we believe in people-first career development. Whether it's helping individuals transition into new roles, supporting lifelong learning, or championing diversity, our goal is to empower employees to take ownership of their careers.
